Q What do they do after graduation from the Joshibi University of Arts and Design?
A Students who have graduated from this university are active in the fashion industry and various other fields.

Many gain work as designers, patterners, planners and merchandisers, while about 10 percent of the graduate students further their study in graduate school or overseas.
Moreover, some become artists to create and exhibit their work, others become curators to work in museums or art museums, others establish their own companies, and others still become teachers in junior high or high schools.

Q What qualification will I obtain?
A By earning the required credits, you will obtain the following qualifications upon graduation:

- Level 1 Junior high school teaching license (fine art)
- Level 1 High school teaching license (fine art)
- Curator qualification

Other than the above, many students are studying to pass the National Merchandise Decoration and Display Skills Examination, Pattern Making Examination, Fashion Color Competency Examination, Fashion Business Competency Examination, Fashion Sales Competency Examination, and others.

Q What is the difference between an art university and a vocational school?
A An art university is where people who wish to be involved in creation involving various genres gather together.

The Department of Cross-Disciplinary Art and Design at Joshibi University of Art and Design comprises four disciplines: "Field of Fashion and Textile," "Field of Media Arts and Design," "Field of Art and Design for Healing," and "Field of Art Produce and Museum Study." There will be sufficient stimulation and discovery for you through cross-disciplinary exchanges and collaborative projects. Many unique national and international students study at Joshibi.

Joshibi nurtures independent thinking ability as a catalyst for creative activities.
Activities involving expression in art and design are supported not just by skills and techniques. Your study and experience through special subjects such as "Color Science," "Art History," and "Design History" will surely help boost your creative activities. Moreover, rich liberal arts subjects, taught only in university, including "Cultural Anthropology," "Philosophy," and "Language," nurture women who think and live independently.

Q What are the characteristics of the Field of Fashion and Textile at Joshibi?
A The fusion of fashion and textiles.

To learn fashion and textiles in an integrated manner means acquiring a knowledge of materials and the ability to design and create at the same time. Students review the starting point of monozukuri (making things) and expand the potential of fashion and textiles.

Project-style education
Project-style education is provided through collaboration with companies, local medical institutions, facilities for children, etc. to introduce "on-site learning." The emotional satisfaction which can only be perceived by getting involved in actual society will fuel the creation of numerous works.

Q But I have never used a sewing machine…
A No problem!

Many of the newly-enrolled students are beginners in dressmaking and have never used a sewing machine.
In the Field of Fashion and Textile at Joshibi University of Art and Design, the first and second years are for the basic courses and the third and fourth for specialized courses. Joshibi has a reasonable education system where students rise up the scale after learning the basics to settle in their respective creative activities.
